The Songs ~ Buy It
Welcome Home: 1997-2007
You know what? Playing your songs with a crack band behind you is great. Playing guitar for other people’s songs, like those by Sarah Harmer or Dragonette, is nifty. Producing for still other folks — like AA Sound System, Leeroy Stagger and Damhnait Doyle — is swell. Touring the country and the world is excellent. Getting props from David Bowie for how you’ve interpreted his songs is wicked. Hosting your own show on CBC is indescribable. All the trappings of the music industry are, well, pretty darn cool. But don’t forget that, underneath it all, there’s a voice, and a guitar, and a story to tell.
Danny Michel hasn’t forgotten that. That’s why, for his ten-year retrospective, he sat down on his couch with his guitar and simply played and sang. The result is Welcome Home: 1997-2007, which commits some of Danny’s best-known songs to tape in a manner that most fans probably haven’t heard before. Ten of those songs have been collected on the special vinyl version, available in either red or white vinyl.
Take time to remember when it was about the music, and let Danny Michel remind you why that was a great time.
