Shout-Outs and Mazel Tovs
Dunno if you know, but the nominations for the Western Canadian Music Awards were announced today, and a number of friends of Saved By Radio found their names in the final five:
-The Liberty Lounge at Mount Royal College got a nod for Live Venue of the Year, with John Bowers and Josh Boser getting their names out for Talent Buyers of the Year. (The Liberty Lounge was where the joy of cupcakes first came into Saved By Radio's world...)
-Ken Beattie of Killbeat Music in Vancouver is up for Publicist of the Year. (He says nice things about our bands to people at newspapers, radio stations, clubs, etc...)
-The Spam Avenger, who you'll remember for his inimitable rendition of "The Consumer" on Bring Your Own Plywood, is also part of the Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir, who are nominated for Blues Album of the Year for Saint Hubert.
Applause all 'round, fellas!
(Now we just gotta figure out how to win Album of the Year, and we'll be all set...)

Bluenose Press
So The Coast did a lovely little piece on Falconhawk in their August 5 issue, prior to the band's appearance at Stage Nine in Halifax tomorrow night (that's Saturday the 7th). If you'd like to check it out, it's at http://www.thecoast.ca/thearts.html. And the cool thing is that in addition to giving you a good idea of what the band is like, it gives you a good idea of what it's like to be in a band - and it ain't always groupies and red-Smartie-free riders.
(BTW, you may be interested to know that "the bus" in question is the old Chixdiggit bus - a Calgary music legend rides (or is that drives?) again!)
